How to begin

On the Project home tab (only available if you have a project open in memoQ), click the Translation memories icon on the left. The Translation Memories ribbon tab appears.

Use

The Translation memories pane lists the translation memories available for use in the current project. The list contains translation memories that have the same source and target language as the project. Local translation memories are all listed. The list also shows translation memories pinned to the resource list in the Resource console. Plus, you can display translation memories published on one server. You can select the server in the Server URL box in the memoQ server section on the Translation Memories ribbon tab.

Translation memory actions

Use the Translation Memory ribbon tab to manage translation memories in the local project or the checked out online project. The following buttons are available:

TM section:

Create/Use New: Opens the New translation memory dialog to create a new translation memory. This command also adds the translation memory to the project.

Register local: Click this command to register your translation memory locally. Navigate to the MTM file, then click Open. This command adds a resource that you have in the file system to the Resource console.

Clone: Creates an empty translation memory with the same custom fields as the selected TM.

Properties: Displays the Translation memory properties dialog to view or change the properties of the selected resource.

Delete: Deletes the selected translation memory. You cannot delete a translation memory that is still in use in the project: remove it from the project first.

Project section:

Use in project/Remove from project: Adds the selected translation memory to the project. If it is already added, removes it.

Set as working (primary): Sets the selected translation memory as working (primary), where all confirmed segments are written until you choose another primary translation memory.

Set as master: Sets the selected translation memory as master TM. When you perform Confirm and update rows operation at the end of a project, all segments are confirmed to the master TM, the master TM is updated.

Settings: Displays the Select TM settings dialog to assign a set of TM options to the selected translation memory. You can choose from TM option sets assigned to the project. To manage TM option sets in the project, use the TM settings tab of the Settings pane of the memoQ online project dialog.

Translations section:

Edit: Displays the appropriate dialog or tab for editing the contents of the selected TM.

Import from TMX/CSV: Imports the contents of a TMX or CSV file into the selected translation memory.

Export to TMX: Exports the contents of the selected translation memory into a TMX file.

Repair resource: Starts the Repair wizard for the selected translation memory. Use when you think the translation memory is damaged.

Synchronize offline: Creates a local copy of the selected online translation memory, or – if the local copy already exists – synchronizes the contents of the local and the remote copies: uploads any local changes, and downloads any remote changes.

memoQ server section:

Choose to edit a remote or local resource. If you select My Computer, then all local resources on your computer are available for editing. If you select a memoQ server, then you can also edit remote resources.
